You are never too old to set another goal or to dream another dream

C.S. Lewis

Healing doesn’t mean the damage never existed. It means the damage no longer controls our lives.

The secret to change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.

ACC – Who is eligible?

Any adult or child who experiences sexual violence in New Zealand, and in some cases NZ residents who experience sexual violence overseas, are eligible for ACC sensitive claim support. Sexual violence includes

  •  most forms of sexual violation, rape, unwanted sexual contact, or indecent assault on an adult
  • ALL sexual contact with children
  • female genital mutilation

It doesn’t matter how long ago it happened – ACC will support you when YOU are ready. Everybody has a different response to the abuse they suffered.  if you are unsure whether you meet ACC criteria talk to us about your situation. We are here to help you find the support you need, in your time and on your terms.

Whether you have a claim lodged with ACC or not, we can support you through the whole process. The quickest way to access this service is to email your contact details to selena@heartcounselling.org. She will endeavour to contact you within 24 hours (during business hours) to help find the best available match for YOU. Alternatively, complete this form: ACC REFERRAL FORM

We have a network of ACC approved Counsellors, Psychotherapists, Social Workers and Psychologists. The areas we currently cover for ACC sensitive claims include Hamilton, Matamata. Howick and some Waikato towns.

We are expanding into other regions and will update here as this happens.

GP Referral   for adults

Most medical practices are linked to a Primary Health Organisation (PHO)

  • Ask your GP to send a referral for counselling through to their Primary Health Organisation (PHO) – either Pinnacle Midland Health, Hauraki PHO, or National Hauora Coalition.
  • Once we receive the referral we will make contact with you to arrange the first appointment.
  • You will be entitled to 4 – 6 sessions. We can let you know when we receive your referral.
  • Sessions expire 12 weeks after referral date.
  • There is a 6 month stand down after your last session before you can reapply to your GP for another counselling referral.

Youth (aged 12 – 19) do not need a GP referral.  We can arrange the funding from our end,

If you do not qualify for PHO funding, we have other avenues we can explore on your behalf. Failing that we also have Genoapay to help spread the costs while you get the support you want.
